چکیده

Background Because of anatomic proximity, myocarditis is often associated with pericarditis. Although randomized trials have not delineated a successful evidence-based therapy for myocarditis, there is evidence of considerable benefit in treating pericarditis with a regimen of colchicine and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Cardiac MRI (CMR) is capable of detecting both myocarditis and pericarditis using T2 weighted pulse sequences and delayed enhancement imaging with gadolinium. This study was designed to assess the effect of a colchicine/NSAID treatment regimen for myocarditis identified by CMR. Methods An institutional CMR database was queried for all patients with pericarditis who had associated myocarditis. Those patients with at least 1 follow-up CMR study to assess response to therapy with a colchicine/NSAID regimen constituted the study population. The follow-up CMR studies were categorized and tabulated as resolved, partially resolved or no improvement with respect to myocarditis, based on consensus of 2 experienced CMR interpreters.

In vivo T2* weighted MRI visualizes cardiac lesions in murine models of acute and chronic viral myocarditis

OBJECTIVE Acute and chronic forms of myocarditis are mainly induced by virus infections. As a consequence of myocardial damage and inflammation dilated cardiomyopathy and chronic heart failure may develop. The gold standard for the diagnosis of myocarditis is endomyocardial biopsies which are required to determine the etiopathogenesis of cardiac inflammatory processes. However, new non-invasive...

Cardiovascular Hybrid Imaging using PET/MRI Kardiovaskuläre Hybridbildgebung mit PET/MRT

The following overview provides a summary of the state of the art and research as well as potential clinical applications of cardiovascular PET/MR imaging. PET/MRI systems have been clinically available for a few years, and their use in cardiac imaging has been successfully demonstrated. At this period in time, some of the technical difficulties that arose at the beginning have been solved; in ...

Differential diagnosis of suspected apical ballooning syndrome using contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

AIMS The apical ballooning syndrome (ABS) is a new diagnostic entity which is increasingly recognized. Precise magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data are not yet available and there is little evidence for the differential diagnosis of ABS assessed by MRI. METHODS AND RESULTS Between January 2005 and January 2008, 6100 consecutive patients with diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome underwent lef...

Patient with Churg Strauss Syndrome and Myocarditis Treated with Cyclophosphamide

Cardiac involvement in Churg Strauss Syndrome is common and a poor prognostic indicator. Myocarditis in Churg Strauss Syndrome can present in different ways. It has been shown that basic cardiac investigations including echocardiography can be normal even in symptomatic patients. More recently cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been shown to be more sensitive in its diagnosis. Our cas...

Myocarditis masquerading as acute coronary syndrome: diagnostic role of cardiac MRI

Background Myocarditis presenting as isolated acute chest pain with elevated troponins but normal systolic function by echocardiogram is rare in previously healthy children. Diagnosis is challenging in this situation with significant drawbacks even for the gold standard endomyocardial biopsy. Our study aim is to evaluate the diagnostic role of cardiac MRI in comparison with echocardiography in ...
